Speeding Ticket
Submitted by X-Istence on Sat, 2008-01-19 00:37.It was about that time, I have my first speeding ticket here in Phoenix for doing 63 Mph in a 45 Mph zone. 18 Mph over the limit. It was bound to happen one of these days. Baseline is a straight road, and most of the time when I drive on it is an empty stretch of road. 63 Mph is not even that fast, considering other people will do 70 Mph to 80 Mph on a normal during the day kind of traffic.
It was late at night, I was in a hurry to get to school to watch a movie, and to go out to dinner. It was stupid, and I paid for it. I am going to be attending traffic school instead of paying the $191 and getting points on my license. Traffic school is a 4 -> 5 hour class where you sit and take a test and listen to an instructor, that is only going to cost me $135.
Now, this is not the first time I have been pulled over in Phoenix. I got pulled over twice on my way to the airport 5 days ago, when I went to pick up my room mate. The first officer pulled me over for weaving, when all I was doing was staying in the right, moving over to the left and passing, and moving back into the right lane, just as one is expected to drive in Europe. After I explained this to her, she let me go, as she had clearly only seen me pass on the left, and never on the right, so I was not doing it to pass cars as fast as possible. The second officer that pulled me over, pulled me over for weaving and drunk driving (same thing as the cop before), so off course I had to blow into the Breathalyzer and walk a line, and I explained to her once again that I was just following traffic laws by moving to the right instead of staying in the same lane. She agreed and let me go.
Before that, I had been pulled over on four separate occasions for speeding, in a 45 Mph zone. First time I was doing 70 Mph, second time I was doing 84 Mph, third time 90 Mph, and the fourth time 57 Mph. I had not received a ticket on any of those occasions, just a warning to keep it below 50 Mph. So it was clearly time for me to get a ticket. 1 in 7 is not too bad.
